An awkward walk is a series of 3 pillows, one for under the arm, between the legs and clipped on the back aimed to alter the way the user walks. In the project, the wearables get displayed as a key part of a video installation.
The pillows are designed as part of a series of studies done on how the way we walk, or stand, effect how we are perceived. The, contradictory, confident walk is a signifier of competence, and a such, the way one walks also effects how one fares in a professional environment.
Made in memory foam and covered in a knit developed to replicate popular workplace accessories of "fun socks", these pillows turn the idea of professional workwear on its head, and explores the absurdities that emerge, and our uncomfortability with the postures.
